Anabolic steroid harm reduction helps to reduce the negative consequences of steroid use on the consumer.
We want to reduce the negative consequences of anabolic steroid use by providing information about the quality and potential health risks of underground anabolic steroid products. We believe independent analytic laboratory testing will help anabolic steroid consumers make more informed decisions and minimize the risks associated with the use of underground steroid products.
The Burgeoning Black Market for Anabolic Steroids
The prohibition of anabolic-androgenic steroids (AAS) for non-medical use (e.g. bodybuilding, sports performance) has resulted in a burgeoning black market for these muscle-building and performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs). The unregulated nature of the androgen black market means that the products found in the marketplace can come from a variety of sources. While a small portion of  the market share involves pharmaceutical diversion of human-grade quality anabolic steroids from legitimate pharmaceutical companies, the majority of underground steroid products are manufactured in clandestine underground laboratories (UGLs). Steroids manufactured by UGLs account for the majority of the steroid availability in the United States and most international markets.
Since UGL-manufactured steroids rarely approach human grade pharmaceutical standards, consumers face additional risks and uncertainties above and beyond the risks associated with the anabolic steroids themselves. This unintended consequence of prohibition can result in unforeseen side effects and/or serious injury for the consumer.
Independent Analytical Lab Testing for Anabolic Steroid Harm Reduction
Analytical lab testing (e.g. steroid quantification testing, microbiological testing and heavy metal testing) will answer the following questions about underground steroid products:
Does the product contain the quantities of the active ingredients listed on the label?
Does the product contain another similar substance as a substitution for what is listed on the label (e.g. stanozolol instead of oxandrolone)?
Does the product contain impurities and contaminants?
Does the product contain other steroid precursors and/or other unidentified steroidal compounds?
Does the product contain heavy metal contamination (e.g. lead, mercury, arsenic)?
The answers to these questions are of critical importance to steroid harm reduction efforts.
Note: This is strictly a harm reduction service for consumers. It is not a quality control service for steroid manufacturers and underground labs.
