Ryan Root, who was the leader of one of the largest steroid distribution rings in U.S. history, pleaded guilty in November 2016 to conspiring to distribute anabolic steroids and commit international money laundering. This plea was part of a criminal case, and in doing so, he admitted to his role in the illegal scheme, which involved purchasing and distributing large quantities of steroids from China.
While this was an admission of guilt as part of a legal proceeding for distribution, Root has also spoken publicly, in numerous podcasts and interviews, about his personal history with steroids, including his own use of them starting in his early 20s.
