Fish were biting
« on: March 02, 2023, 05:03:29 am »
I stopped to do a buddy check on combat veteran who just retired and did a little fishing while I was up in his area of operations. It was windy, cold and had rained 2 inches over the last couple days, but it was March 1st. The fish always bite on March 1st. I caught a bunch of little guys like the one pictured. I had two fish in a row at the end of the day break me off. I have never had a bass ever break me off, so I figured it was time to go home.
If it doesn't scare you, it is not heavy enough.

Sweet! Water is up to high 40s here. Gonna rain today and it is mid 70s so the water will warm and get all muddy. Crappie should be stacking up. Bass in prespawn. Cats will start moving onto shallow flats by feeder creeks.

My fav time of the year.

Also a buddy told me late March Biscayne Bay is like a fish fest. I think I am gonna head out there and see for myself

Your starting the fever. I have to buy like 9 or more fresh water license for certain states I’m in.  I’ll complete online this weekend. I’m not buying trout stamps. Some states are stating brown trout can not be kept. I like trout.  My friends own hatcheries in Poconos. So I’m good on trout.   But JG you got me tuned in now.

Good job

Yeah, you need a trout stamp in my state. However, that is all I have to pay for being a veteran. My fishing and hunting licenses are free. I also have a lifetime disabled veteran license for Texas and Nebraska. However, technically I am supposed to be resident to use them.

They stock trout in the river here a couple times every year. I have never caught one though. No trout stamp necessary. Then I am using spinning gear and spinners. Lots of dudes with flyrods around me.

That reminds me. The way trout fishing is around me, makes me not want to go. The rules are a pain in the ass. Here in MO, if you find yourself fishing with a spinner and everyone else is fly fishing, you might want to check the regulations, because you are probably in violation. They get ridiculous. Fly only areas; artificial only areas; artificial only areas, but no soft plastics; bait only areas: rainbow only area; brown only area; area where you can keep 4 rainbow trout; area where you can only keep 1 brown trout; area where you cannot keep any trout; area where you can keep four trout of any species; areas where they can be any size; areas where there are specific sizes for rainbows and browns; etc... The area might only be 500 yards long sandwiched between two other areas and nothing is posted. It will state in the booklet something like, the area between the utility outlet in this town and Spring creek is a white ribbon trout area with the following specifications. What a giant pain in the ass.

Yea it's like that in every state I'm in during stocking.  I don't even bother.  People are all up on one another.

Bureaucracy bro. What does the government do efficiently? Only thing I can think of is create red tape when there is no need.
