Winds have been consistently 10+ mph with 15+ mph gusts every single day for a month. I can do that in the summer, but I am not taking the kayak out in the that in the winter. I wish I lived about 5-6 hours closer to the Gulf. I would make a weekend trip down to LA. Right now the trout are easy to find.
If it doesn't scare you, it is not heavy enough.

I hear the waters off Venice in Louisiana is HOT!

I am 5 hours from the gulf. Need to just take a weekend and go. Prob next year during the bull red run.

This is the time of year when the trout school up in deep holes inside the marsh and you can find really big "gator" trout. We used to go to Myrtle Grove Marina, which is on the way to Venice, and fish in the canal about 500 yards from the launch. Boats would be going by us all day and had no idea we were all catching limits. They had to be 12 inches to keep, but we put personal limits of 14" or 15" and would still limit out with a couple 20-22".

I need to go. I watch the reports on the Texas Fishing Forum. Want to go and actually catch fish.

I haven't decided if I am making a trip down this year, but if I do, I will hit you up. I prefer the areas around Grand Isle, because I know them well and can find the fish, but Grand Isle is expensive. Big Lake is a lot cheaper, but harder finding the fish.

I like to go in June, because if you buy your license in June it is good for that year and the next.
