Hunting this season?
« on: December 08, 2023, 07:58:12 am »
I went dove hunting with my pals a while back. I shot nothing but drank a lot of beer that night. Still no place to hut deer. Maybe hogs this winter.

How about you?

I did catch a 31 lbs blue last night which interrupted my cigar time. But worth it.

I went out about a dozen times and seen 14 bucks of which only 2 were mature bucks. A bunch of .5-2.5 year olds. The mature bucks never presented me with a good shot opportunity. I did shoot one of the 2.5 year old bucks with my Glock 20 at 21 yards. I will admit, it was getting warm and late morning, so I fell asleep in the stand. I woke up to the sound of steps behind me when I see this little 2.5 year old 8 point walking directly behind my tree. He walked right through my wind and didn't spook, but he knew something was up. I knew I wouldn't be able to get my rifle up and in position without spooking him, so i grabbed my Glock and aimed for his heart.

I put a good shot on him, as he dropped, jumped up, ran through the fence and was dragging his front leg as he ran off into the woods out of my sight. I gave him a little time, got down and looked for blood. I couldn't find any. Not a single drop of blood for the 150 yards I seen him travel. I grid searched for a bit and still couldn't find blood. I thought, maybe I missed and he just dropped from being spooked and him dragging his leg was from running through the fence. I heard my buddy shoot on the other side of the hill early in the afternoon and the 4-wheeler fire up. I started to get hungry, so I headed back to the house to see what he got. I walked up and said, that looks exactly like the buck I shot at. He said, you hit him. He pulled the bullet right out of his heart. That buck survived for several hours with a 10 mm Sig Personal Defense Round embedded in his heart. Crazy tough. Anyways, he already tagged it, so it was his.

He and I haven't seen a single mature doe all season, bow or rifle, which is freaking crazy as hell. Nothing but yearlings.

I have caught a ton of crappie and bass.
If it doesn't scare you, it is not heavy enough.

GF, you never located the deer?  I guess no trace of blood. No meat.

Yeah, I found him when my buddy shot him with the rifle several hours later. We found my bullet embedded in the buck's heart. He lived for several hours with a 10 mm bullet in his heart.

Damn bro that is crazy! My uncle is in hospice, he was the best uncle an outdoorsy kid could have. He took me and my cousin bird hunting and fishing and he wants me to have his stainless SW Model 29 with an 8 inch barrel when he passes. Of course this is a .44 mag. He bought it in the 70s after seeing dirty harry. He has bad dementia, anyway it would make a helluva close up hunting pistol I reckon?

I would give up all my guns just to have my uncle back for a year.

He also took me deer hunting on my one and only trip. You might remember that story from WCBB.

Badass pistol. I would shoot deer out to 50 yards with that thing all day long, supported of course. Haha. I am a pretty good shot with the larger revolvers, better than with a standard semi-automatic, but anything past 25 yards I would want to shoot off a tripod or rail to ensure I didn't put a bad shot on them. I haven't decided what my next pistol purchase will be, XVR .460 or Chiappa Rhino DS6 .357 in Nebula. They are about the same price. I want the last thing the deer thinks when they look up and see the Nebula pointed at them is, who the fuck invited Liberace out here.
